"Tottenham to stop using non-so-Uma" ...Newcastle game festering 'worst play'

Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma has faced criticism. Tottenham needs better players than him to try to win the league.

Dan Kilpatrick, a Tottenham reporter for the British media "Evening Standard," said on the 16th (Korea Standard) that "Tottenham needs players like Rodri of Manchester City and Declan Rice of Arsenal this summer to close the gap with the top three teams next season. Bissouma is not the same after being sent off against Luton Town in October."

Bissouma moved to Tottenham from Brighton Hove Albion last season. He was expected to show some form as he played as a defensive midfielder for Brighton and was at his best in the Premier League.

But he was disappointed last season. He didn't get many chances last season, as he didn't match Antonio Conte's soccer. He played in 28 matches, but his average playing time was only 45 minutes. He usually played as a substitute or when his starters were injured.

This season has been different. This season, the newly appointed coach Ange Postecoglou selected him as the starting defensive midfielder. From the beginning of the season, unlike last season, Bissouma and Pape Sarr have been the starters. As Rodrigo Bentancourt, who started last season, was injured, Pierre-Emile Hoiberg was not fit for postecoglou football.

Bissouma's strengths were obvious. He was a defensive midfielder, but also had good forward drive and good defensive ability. He was the first starting defensive midfielder for Postecoglou because he was prone to injuries.

At the beginning of the season, Bisuma's strengths were clearly revealed. Bisuma defended himself and showed off his strengths by moving the ball forward to the offensive line, filling the space between defense and attack. He became the core of Tottenham's midfield with his high level of activity. Tottenham continued its unbeaten streak thanks to his performance.

After being sent off in a league game against Luton Town in October, his performance began to decline. He showed little of his strengths, was poor in passes, and lacked the ability to relieve pressure. If he were a defensive midfielder, he would have to defend himself in front of defense, but he seems to have lost his ability.

Although Bissouma has been performing poorly, Postecoglou has continued to show trust in him. They have continued to start him later in the season, but he has consistently failed to meet expectations. Rather, Bentancourt and Hoybeerg looked better.

That demonstration was against Nottingham Forest in a league game on the 8th. In the league game against Nottingham, Postecoglou started Bissouma and Sarr as defensive midfielders, but when things didn't work out in the first half, he left out the two players and replaced them with Bentancur and Hoybeerg at the start of the second half. The replacement was successful. The two players were very good in offense and defense, revitalizing the midfield, and Tottenham won 3-1 with two late goals.

They succeeded in replacing the defensive midfielder, but Postecoglou did not change his choice against Newcastle on the 13th. The result was a 0-4 defeat. Bissouma could not avoid responsibility.

"The defeat against Newcastle on Saturday was Tottenham's worst performance and clearly revealed the need for a defensive midfielder to defend," Kilpatrick said. "Newcastle scored with one pass, but Tottenham failed to score," Bissouma said.
